Metaverse Week in Review has its own site!

A couple of weeks ago, Sougent, one of our “regulars” for the Metaverse Week in Review live videocast,  noted that the domain MetaverseWeekInReview.com was available. I jumped into Dotster (my domain registrar of choice) and grabbed it before I could have second thoughts…knowing how I easily procrastinate when I allow myself the dubious luxury of *thinking* about doing something, rather than just Doing. (Note these are lower-case second thoughts… no connection to Second Life, or to Prokofy’s blog!)

Anyhow, the show’s new website is now live - we’ll use it as a consistent show “home” so if we broadcast from somewhere other than Operator11.com, you’ll still know where to find us. And, code willing, the live show will be viewable there each week.

This will also help folks who want to catch up with past shows, or the occasional broadcast outside of our Sunday 10am SL-US Pacific/6pm UK time-slot. With the ongoing tech issues at Operator11, notably broken registration so it’s impossible to get new guests into the studio, we’re doing periodic shows at www.blogstar.com - the sister site to operator11.

There are also handy pages here to view Mal’s current twitterstream, as well as our Metaworld channel at Mogulus (where Mal posts SL news and arts machinima for your view-anytime pleasure).  I also plan to incorporate an archive of Mal’s twitterstream shortly - which should be a help to those who can’t keep up with him!  ;-)

The Metaverse Week in Review website doesn’t replace this one, or any of Mal’s multiple blogging/posting spots. We do hope, tho, that it will help you keep track of stuff, or at least find things more easily!

Orange 100 - and then some

After months of frustration with chronic freezes and crashes, I finally broke down and increased the RAM in the cheap PC I’m using for Second Life (yes, I am a Mac fanatic, but alas, SL runs considerably faster on a peecee, and I can’t afford to upgrade yet to an Intel Mac). Vista obnoxiousness aside, I am quite amazed at the improvement… particularly in normally high-lag crowded sim situations.

And, much to my glee, I can now do inworld video capture with a frame rate I can actually live with - a welcome benefit I wasn’t expecting! This means I can resume messing around with machinima production, a side-tracked interest because of hardware limitations pre-RAM increase.

Orange Island’s Photo Week was loaded with excellent sessions to inspire some renewed picture-taking, including a “family photo op” on Friday, seeing if one could get 100 avatars to sit still long enough to take a picture or 30…which I did, since for once I was actually able to maneuver my cam view around and play with angles.  Then, on Saturday night, a mundane teleport home landed me in a very non-mundane impromptu “party” at Callet Hobo Railroad, one of the SL welcome centers… courtesy of the GremLindens (hey, it’s a weekend, you really don’t expect the grid to behave?!). I fired up fraps, and what follows is, as they say, virtual history.

Thanks to all the unnamed grey bodies attired only in their prim attachments, and to Doubledown Tandino for soundtrack music. Enjoy.  :-)

Metaverse Week in Review - belated June 29 reprise

Some weeks doing our “Second Life/Metaverse Week in Review” seems long - others, two 40-minute segments whiz by. Last Sunday (June 29) was one of the latter, in spite of not getting around to very many video clips.

Among the topics: Week one of Second Life 5th Birthday celebration; an interesting Stanford Research Institute panel on Virtual Worlds-Year in Review, Year Ahead; Orange’s photo week; and Cisco CEO’s speech in SL.

We’re continuing - for the moment - at operator11.com, in spite of the various broken features. However, the same folks behind operator11 have a brand-new site, www.blogstar.com, and we’re set up there as well. Rumor has it they *do* plan to fix the multiple issues at operator11, so to keep our archives in one place, we’ll persist there, with some “extra” shows at blogstar (since we can get new guests into the studio there, which we can’t do - because of broken features - at Op11). Do drop in and register at blogstar (so you can participate in the backchat), and stay tuned to Mal at Twitter, or me at Twitter (also in sidebar on the right of this blog), for short-fuse announcements on where and when.

Here are links to the show (in the interest of reducing blog video clutter):
